CNC-Machined UAV Parts: What Actually Keeps a Drone Flying
Hui

A drone rarely fails because the code was interesting. It fails because a mount moved, a hub ran out of round, or heat had nowhere to go.
Newtop machines that hardware: motor mounts, rotor hubs, heat-sink plates, arm flanges, pins, and locking nuts. Aluminum, stainless, brass, titanium. Down to ±0.002 mm.
Five part families
Hubs and prop flanges — Torque, heat, cyclic load. If the bore is not concentric with the register, the prop tracks an ellipse and the battery pays for it.
Motor mounts — Flat datum, true bore, threads that survive field swaps. Send the motor ICD and the arm tube OD.
Heat sinks — Fins only work if the interface is flat and the alloy conducts. 6061 is usually enough. 7075 if the same part is also structure.
Pins and studs — Clock the hub, clamp, and pull heat. Swiss-turning work.
Lock nuts and couplers — The parts nobody redesigns until one backs off in flight.

Metal
- 6061-T6 — Default. Machines and anodizes clean.
- 7075-T6 — Stronger, lighter fittings. Call out edge breaks.
- 303 / 304 / 316L — Pins, shafts, spray-drone fittings. 316L for chemicals.
- Titanium — Only when mass is the constraint.
Hard anodize for wear. Black anodize for camera ships. Passivate stainless. Material certs on request.
Tolerances worth paying for
Not every dimension needs ±0.002 mm. These do:
- Hub / seat concentricity — this is balance
- Mounting-face flatness — a dish preloads the motor
- Bolt-pattern position — shift becomes vibration
- Thread class — field techs will reuse it
- Mass — 4 g extra on four motors is 16 g all afternoon
Lots are checked on a ZEISS CONTURA CMM. Reports ship with the parts.
How we run it
Drawing or STEP in. Quote in one business day. First articles in as little as 48 hours. Then lock the process and repeat.
Swiss lathes for pins and fittings. 4/5-axis mills for mounts and hubs. Use the right machine for the part.
What to send
Motor ICD, tube OD, target mass, finish, qty now and at rate, and whether you need a CMM report or material cert.
